A message from the Mayor
Here we are, another year ends – but another begins.
Dartmouth has over the last 12 months seen many developments and changes.
We have our Redeveloped Market Square, partial opening of the fire damaged site in Fairfax place and a new pontoon bridge on the embankment. The Naval College still continues to offer a very important focal point for locals and visitors and at present looks good for the immediate future. Our Royal Avenue Gardens have produced well deserved Gold Awards and the Town has continued to enjoy a wide range of festivals and activities that have proven as popular as year’s gone by.
All in all we have had a wonderful season – yet as we all realise, changes will take place as we look to 2012 otherwise we stand accused of being stagnant and not moving forward.
2012 promises to be a good year, we have the Royal Jubilee Celebrations, the visit of the Olympic Torch, The Thomas Newcomen 300 Celebrations, J8 Yacht event, Regatta, Music Festival, Comedy Festival, Food Festival, Fat Stock Show ,Shakespeare Week and many more events that continue to make Dartmouth a destination Town.
Talk is often made in National Terms about the Big Society. I would challenge any policy makers to look at Dartmouth and realise that we are already a BIG Society, made up of many individual and very effective parts, especially in our care of those in the Community and its inhabitants. We as Dartmothians have that collective responsibility and take it very seriously. We are very proud of our activities around the Town the Charities and the Groups of Individuals who make up this wonderful jewel in the crown of the South Hams.
Your council are committed as always in taking your views forward, as in previous years, and I encourage you all to make contact with your Ward Councillors and engage with developments for 2012 or may be call to see the Mayor at the Council Office’s.
I do wish you all a Happy and peaceful New Year.
With all good wishes.
Cllr Paul Allen
Mayor of Dartmouth.
